| NYC Fall '05 Fashion Week Review |
 |
Pop icon Boy George says his new clothing line, B-Rude,
"is for people who like their reputation to precede them".
The line, backed by a Japanese clothing chain &
designed
with Mike Nicholls, featured male models in full make-up
and nail polish strutting down the runway in a colorful
array
of punk-rock fashions that mixed graffiti-art with
images
of cultural icons. The show oozed of sexual ambiguity.
The skirts, shirts, jackets, jeans, jogging pants, t's,
and hoodies will be priced from $25 to $200 and up.
Some styles are originals and some are mass produced.

Sex and the City Stylist Supreme, Patricia Field and
Rocawear founder Damon Dash, had a launch party for
their collection "Patricia Field for the
House of Rocawear". Pat calls the line "urban, rock
star, sexy", saying it will have a touch of Paris Hilton
glam, mixed with urban sweatshirt, and topped off with
motorcycle chic. The 30-piece limited-edition
collection will be shown to buyers at the upcoming
trade shows in Las Vegas.
The cutting edge fashion
design team of Nico and Adrian
introduced their Fall '05 collection to the world.
It was business meets punk-rock elegance in
a medley of plaids, velvets, and business greys.
Lavender, reds, and marigold fur accents dangled from
hips like sheaths for daggers. Long pheasant
feathers sprang out of tousled hair piled on top of
the heads of models as they sashayed to the sounds of
industrial trance music. An overall Scottish influence
was seen in the many multi-length pleated plaid skirts
and plaid overalls. The highlight of the show was two
classically tailored men's velvet suits in burgundy
and sky blue. --Delilah Fawn
Jennifer Lopez closed New York Fashion Week by
sending 56 looks down a crystal-covered runway that
looked like they came right out of her own closet.
The Sweetface line is based on Lopez's own public
image and personal style. There were drastically
oversized floppy hats like ones she's worn to award
shows. Naomi Campbell worked the finale in a huge
white mink picture fedora the size of an umbrella. The
collection combines high-end metallic, crystal trim, and
diamond-studded jeans, contrasted with natural-looking
casual wear, in soft, loose shapes, capes, sexy
chiffon baby-doll dresses, cool knickers, and luxurious
cashmere sweaters. Fur and leather mixed evening
dresses and coats, with raccoon-trimmed ponchos,
sable collars, and mink hot pants. Vogue editor at
large, Andre Leon Talley said, "he loved it. It was
fabulous". And when he talks Fashion Flash listens. The
Sweetface collection is right on--Skin baring, Sexy, and
Luxe!
Overall the NYC Fashion Week Fall '05 collections were
Eskimo meets hippie chic at Anna Sui, innovative looser
silhouettes at Marc Jacobs, Urban glam couture at
Baby Phat, lower heels, higher waistlines, everyone's
version of a funky 3/4 length pant, more wrap dresses
at DVF, loads of color for boys, more luxe for all,
including Kenneth Cole, the well received return of John
Bartlett's menswear to the shows, and better
construction at Heatherette, who by the way, has
received $10million in backing for their accessories line.
