RLB: Tell me about your first experience with makeup.
DE: My first experience with makeup was at my mother's vanity. I always went in her room and played in her closet, with her clothes and her makeup!
RLB: Was your mother encouraging of you experimenting with makeup?
DE: No! Not at all! Actually she forbad me to wear a lick of makeup until I was 16. But of course before I was 16 I always wanted to wear makeup, and actually I was obsessed with it. But when I turned 16 then I changed me mind because I realized I really didn't know how to apply it, what colors looked best on me, if I was putting too much on, so I just left it alone.
I really started getting into the show after America's Next Top Model. Especially once I signed with Cover Girl I had their wonderful makeup artists teach me the correct way to apply it an what products look best on my skin tone, the secrets of contouring and all of that fun stuff!
RLB: What was your favorite look from the weekly America's Next Top Model Challenges during your cycle?
DE: My favorite look was the very first photo challenge we did which was the "bald" shoot, because it was so different and "out there" for me because it was taking all my hair away and it really accentuated me face and features. I also really loved what they did with the makeup. For that look they really focused on my eyes, and when you look at those photos that's the first thing that you notice, my eyes.
RLB: What type of makeup do you wear on your off days when you are not modeling?
DE: Mascara! I LOVE mascara. I don't put on any foundation, blush, or even lipstick, but I love me some mascara! I just really like to accentuate my lashes . My bag is just ridiculous with all of the different mascaras I have!
RLB: Which Cover Girl mascaras do you use?
DE: Oh my! I use them all actually! But my favorite is probably the Lash Exact
RLB: Do you put any color on the lips with this lash-intense look?
Oh honey I just use Vaseline! It keeps them nice and smooth!
RLB: What is your skincare routine?
My skin type is naturally VERY dry. I wash my face AM and PM with Neutrogena and for my moisturizer I just use Vitamin E Oil . I keep it very simple. When the weather gets warmer I switch up my skincare routine a little and use a light Olay moisturizer).
RLB: Any other skin care tips for our readers?
DE: Always drinks LOTS of water, and remember to always take your makeup off to let your face breath! Your pores need to breath at the end of the day...
RLB: Tell us about your haircare routine...
DE: I wash my (naturally curly and relaxed hair) every two weeks. If I can't get in the salon I will still do it myself and I use the Farouk Biosilk line of products. They are really light and moisturizing. I use a good blow-dryer and blow it out straight and then tie it down until I have something to do.
RLB: What's next for you?
DE: I'm doing 2007 NYC Fall Fashion week this year in which I started off with the Baby Phat show and I'm ending with the Zhang Toi show at the end of the week. I really excited about that. I'm also going to be involved with the Foundation for the African Dafour which is coming up and still working with Cover Girl and Queen Latifah constantly so that's a real plus!
RLB: Any upcoming America's Next Top Model Projects for you?
DE: Well, Tyra's obviously a very busy lady! And her show(s) will use us from time to time for various topics/promotions, so I try to be ready for anything, including last minute calls to fly or travel here or there for Top Model....so stay tuned! - RLB
